ROMS Review and Evolution Process

Consistent with the current Rowing Australia Strategic Plan, RA and its State Associations recognise the need for a national web-based system that not only provides all competition management and entry functionality but also provides a strategic platform that can enable the effective servicing of its membership.

Accordingly, RA with all its State Associations, instigated a thorough review of the IT and communications requirements of the Australian rowing community.

As a result of this review Regatta Central has been identified as the preferred option for delivery of rowing’s national system. Regatta Central is the world’s largest rowing regatta registration, regatta management and club management system, having been founded in 1999. The system as currently used offers a flexible and simple tool for communications between regatta managers and competitors, and for on line entries and payments.

To ensure that the Regatta Central system is suitable for use in the Australian rowing community a number of trials will be conducted throughout the final months of 2012, starting with a trial of the Melbourne Head regatta.

For more information on the trials of the Regatta Central system please see the Club Communications document available at right.

It is expected that these functionality trials will:

  1. Introduce the rowing community to some features which have not been available previously,
  2. identify aspects of Regatta Central which require alteration for use in Australia, and
  3. allow more precise cost estimates of any changes, prior to a final determination in late 2011.

A Steering Committee has been appointed to oversee the process of trialing the Regatta Central system and presenting a final determination on the suitability of the system to the RA Board.

The entire rowing community looks forward to the outcome of the Regatta Central trials and the future of a national web-based system. It is expected that the operation of a system which adequately provides all of the rowing community’s IT requirements will facilitate the evolution of rowing’s business model by building capacity at all levels of administration and enabling more strategic, commercial and sustainable business practices.

For more information on Regatta Central and the progress of the Steering Committee please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Bulletins available at right.
