2010 National Rowing Conference

Australian Institute of Sport, Canberra

This year’s Conference is targeted at providing educative information for each of the three main groups within the rowing community – athletes, coaches and officials.

Sessions will interest and benefit all target groups, with some sessions targeted specifically at each group. The program includes practical sessions and formal presentations, delivered by experts directly involved with the Australian Rowing Team and specialists from across business and the wider sporting community.

Keynote speaker — Paul Thomson

Paul is currently the Amateur Rowing Association's (GBR) Chief Coach for women and lightweights. For ten years he was a senior rowing coach at the Australian Institute of Sport, before being recruited by the ARA in 2000 as a high performance coach. Paul has coached world champion crews for both Australia and Great Britain and his crews have won medals at three Olympic Games, including a gold medal in 1996. In 2000 he received the Australian Sport Medal for services to Australian sport and in 2004 he entered the Sport Coach UK’s Coaching ‘Hall of Fame’ when he received the Mussabini Medal for coaching British scullers and rowers to outstanding success on the world stage. Moreover, Paul oversaw the British women’s rowing team at the Athens Olympics in 2004, which included three medal-winning boats.

2007 Bi-annual NSWIS Rowing Coaches Conference
4 November — Ian Thorpe Theatrette, NSWIS

The focus of the 2007 conference will be to investigate several successful international rowing systems and determine their relevance to rowing within NSW.

Participants will be addressed by two noted coaches currently working within the Australian rowing system, but with experience in coaching within various rowing systems in Europe.

In addition, the conference will include sessions covering technology in rowing, strength training and the introduction of Rowing Australia's National Elite Development Program.

Registration fee: $80 per person (includes teas and lunch)
Registration deadline: Friday 26 October
