Sports Science
Strength & Conditioning

  • Current best practice in strength and conditioning in elite rowing shows that maximum strength is critical for fast and powerful rowing.
  • Strength and conditioning programs should predominantly focus on the development of strength and power, particularly in the phase of the season from September till December.
  • Strength endurance weights may be relevant at certain stages of the season, but should be complemented with some maximal strength sessions in order to maintain maximal strength.
  • A strength and conditioning program that is based purely around strength endurance will lead to decreased levels of maximal strength.
