This discussion paper explores the mechanics of on water and ergometer rowing. It raises some fundamental differences and discusses how these differences may impact on injury risk.
Fixed versus Dynamic Rowing Ergometers
This article is the second of the two discussion papers that were written for Rowing Australia’s elite coaches. Following the distribution of the first paper, quite a few questions were raised regarding the use of the Row Perfect ergometer, or putting the Concept II ergometer on sliders. This article explores what is currently published regarding fixed and dynamic rowing ergometers. Once again, there are some fundamental differences and their implications for injury risk are discussed.
