Rowing Australia responds to flooding
Following the extreme flooding of Queensland, northern NSW and northern VIC, Rowing Australia sends its thoughts and wishes to all those that have been affected.
The extent of the damage and loss of life will not be known for some weeks and the road to recovery for all involved will be a long and painstaking one.
Within the rowing community there has been significant damage to a large number of rowing clubs and the larger rowing community has commenced the coordination of efforts to provide assistance to those who require help in the aftermath of the floods.
Rowing Victoria and Mercantile Rowing Club organised a ‘Rower’s Relief’ fundraising dinner on Friday February 5th that proved to be very successful.
Rowing NSW are coordinating a ‘boat loan program’ for affected schools and clubs that wish to compete at the 2011 New South Wales Rowing Championships. Any school or club that is able to offer assistance to provide boats and oars should contact Brett Morley at RNSW on (02) 8116 9777 or brett@rowingnsw.asn.au. Additional information (pdf).
Similarly, Rowing Australia is coordinating a ‘boat loan’ program for affected schools and clubs that wish to compete at the 2011 Australian Rowing Championships.
To achieve this, Rowing Australia seeks the assistance of all rowing clubs that are able to donate boats for use at the 2011 Australian Rowing Championships by those schools and clubs affected by the floods. Clubs will need to transport these extra boats to Adelaide.
All clubs that are able to lend assistance should email Matt Treglown at RA (mtreglown@rowingaustralia.com.au) and provide details of the boat including its age and condition, as well as the contact details for the responsible member of the club.
RA will then collate the list of available boats and, in conjunction with Rowing Queensland, Rowing New South Wales and Rowing Victoria, match the loan boats offered with those clubs in need.
In addition to this, if you would like to make a donation to the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal, this can be done through the official website.

Amber Halliday
Amber Halliday's condition has improved in hopsital in Adelaide following her cycling accident on Monday evening during a criterium race.
The former triple world rowing champion fell after a touch of wheels and was placed in an induced coma to aid her recovery.
Amber has shown good signs over the last 24 hours however, which has included squeezing people's hands and exchanging minimal words as she drifts in and out of sleep.
Doctors will continue to monitor her over the coming days as she continues to rest.

ROMS is operational in its temporary hosting home
Following flooding in Brisbane, ROMS is in a temporary location until we can get back and sort out the normal premises. As such, the fibre optic connection we normally enjoy is not an option.
Since we are on a degraded communications option, ROMS will be slower at times. If you experience degraded performance, please consider returning at a later time to get your work done. Also please start your entries early to allow for plenty of time to get this done.
We appreciate your patience during these times.
